Gardening is one of the most rewarding past times I have found. You work hard to create a masterpiece everyone can enjoy for years to come. I love being outside during the spring and summer months. When flowers bloom, trees have leaves, wildlife comes to visit your flowers and the smell of fresh cut grass. Tranquility at it's best! I hope you enjoy my blog on gardening as much as I do.

I am a student in the Web Development Associates of Applied Technology degree program at Clark College, Vancouver, WA. Our instructor is Lorelle VanFossen who was a senior editor of the WordPress codex. I have been working with computers for over 25 years. My first computer job was managing electronic data processing (EDP) for the US Department of Commerce as the Assistant Manager for Electronic Data Processing (AMEDP) in the Tulsa Regional Office of the 1990 Decennial Census. The computer was a midrange DEC VAX/VMS. Soon after, PC Networks became popular and I became a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE+I) and Trainer (MCT). I was recruited by IBM Sales as a Field Technical Support Specialist to launch their new PC Server brand. A few years later, I was invited to join IBM Global Services as a Team Lead Professional Server Expert (PSE) and Global IT Architect for Systems and Storage. I was both a contributing member and review board architect of IBM Global Services Reference Architecture. As Lead Architect for Integrated Storage Management Services (ISMS), I was the sole author of the IBM Global Services (GS) Method for Lean Storage Services: ISMS. When IBM Global Services offshored to India in the financial crises of 2007, I relocated to Vancouver, WA. For the past six years, I have worked independently as an Audio/Video Producer and Web Manager. In my personal life, I am the Minister of the St Clare Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order in Portland, OR and a Regional Councilor for Troubadours of Peace (ToP) Region in the Pacific Northwest states of OR, WA, AK, ID. I am responsible for Communications Technology development for ToP Region. I served the National Franciscan Order – USA (NAFRA) as a Q Committee member (AV Producer) for the NAFRA Quinquennial XVIII in Chicago, 2012. I twice received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for National Engineers Week: Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. I chaired the efforts of IBM, in conjunction with Intel, to promote minority recruitment in engineering through such programs as: Hermanas: Diseña Tu Futuro (Design Your Future). I was also an elementary and secondary classroom advocate for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). I currently volunteer as a Spiritual Care Volunteer for Legacy Hospital, Salmon Creek and as a Hospice Volunteer for the Veterans Administration in Vancouver, WA.

I am a painter and mixed media artist. I am working on earning my fine arts degree, majoring in graphic and web based design. I very much enjoy the creative process and I often bring a unique viewpoint. I have recently been using acrylic paints, but I have experience using graphite and charcoal mediums. I often use photography for my work so I have become fairly competent with a camera and I use sketching frequently to help me conceptualize my work in the small scale. My largest work to date is a 48" by 54" acrylic painting and I have developed a fondness for large scale works. They tend to feel more cohesive then smaller works. I am have retired from the US Army, and I enjoy my new path in life as an artist. I love to meeting interesting new people and find collaborating on projects a worth while enterprise.

Belinda

Hello, My name is Belinda Luce, and I am a web and graphic design student at Clark College. Even as a little girl I always had a knack for being creative in anything I did. In school for example, anytime the teacher said we had a project that involved designing a poster board my eyes lit up. As soon as I got home out came all the art supplys to start my project. My parents would read the paper attached to the poster board stating when the assignment was due. ” Belinda, this isn’t due for a month,” They’d say, but I didn’t care. I wanted to make it the very best I could with the most amount of time possible. As I grew older my love for creating never dwindled, but I had to face reality and had to get a job. I worked in various daycares, and didn’t feel like I could really let my creative juices flow at full force. At one daycare, I was finally given somewhat of an outlet to express myself. I designed most of the bulletin boards that were seen by the parents, and I even got to design some of the curriculum to help students learn. This started to carve out a path for me to head towards a career in graphic design. Last year, I won the Best Graphic Award at the Student Art Annual for my typographic work, Type in the City. I was also published in the 2014 edition of the Clark College Phoenix for my piece Blown Away. Since I’ve started here an Clark, these are just a couple of the things I’ve achieved at Clark. I would like this page to showcase my capabilities to show future client, or employers just what it is that I can do. I would also like this to be a learning tool for those who wish to share in the knowledge I posses, as well as share their knowledge with me. I feel that I’ve become proficient in the fundamentals of graphic design. I don’t feel that I’m an expert, and to be quite honest I don’t think I ever will be. Not because I’m not talented in what I do, or that I lack the creative mumbo-jumbo that makes a designer, but because I believe that no one is ever an expert. We are all learning new things every day, even if its something that we are incredibly talented with. I think when an artist put themselves into this “expert” category, they stop taking in information that can be gathered by things that are “beneath” them. I personally like to learn new things everyday, and incorporate them into my work. Thank you for reading my about me page, and I hope that you take away information that will in-turn help you along your own creative journey. If you would like to see more of my art work, please have a gander a my portfolio page at Luce Graphics. Cheers, Belinda

My name is Adam Duthie, and I am taking a leap of faith in changing my career path. Back in 2003 I graduated from Clackamas Community College with an associate’s degree in Networking. Unfortunately this was very bad timing for this minor degree that I had just received because of the events that happened on September 11, 2011. This hurt the .com industry severely and I had to decide to do further schooling or join the workforce. I went back to work because I needed money to survive and got a job at Circuit City. At Circuit City I quickly became an assistant manager. I really thought I had found my career until Circuit City declared bankruptcy and closed their doors. After Circuit City closed their doors I ventured into the wireless industry and started working for T-Mobile. I developed severe anxiety which led me to a big life decision. I needed to do something I love and have a passion for which is web site design and development. Presently I am enrolled at Clark College and I am pursuing a degree in web site design and development.
